The Loud Cloud Animation Lab is a three-evening workshop designed for curious, creative middle and high school students who want to roll up their sleeves and learn how animation really works.
Over the course of the lab, students explore the fundamentals of storytelling, design simple characters, and bring them to life through the handcrafted world of stop-motion.
It’s tactile, screen-free in the best ways, and gives kids a rare look inside a working animation studio here in Oklahoma City.

Each night builds on the last — a mix of fun exercises, behind-the-scenes demonstrations, and hands-on shooting. By the end, students have a short animated moment they made themselves and a deeper understanding of how the magic happens.

Three-Night Curriculum (polished but flexible)

Night 1 — Story & Fundamentals

  • Quick tour of the studio + what animation actually is

  • Basics of timing, frames, movement

  • Simple storyboarding exercise

  • Students build a tiny character or object to animate

Night 2 — Building & Shooting

  • Lighting + camera basics

  • Set up mini stages

  • Learn the principles of squash & stretch, anticipation, follow-through

  • Students shoot their first micro-sequence

Night 3 — Finishing & Showcase

  • Add sound, polish, and simple edits

  • Capture final shots

  • Mini “screening” with parents invited for the last 15 minutes

  • Students take home their files + a Loud Cloud Animation Lab certificate
