Getting kids animating — not just watching

Loud Cloud Animation Lab is a short, immersive stop-motion workshop designed to introduce kids to the fundamentals of animation in a hands-on, approachable way.

The focus isn’t perfection or polish — it’s process. Students learn how movement works, how stories come together, and how to use simple tools to make movies they can continue creating on their own.

What Kids Will Learn & Do

Over two evenings, students will:

  • Learn the basics of stop-motion animation

  • Animate using simple objects, characters, and sets

  • Explore timing, movement, and visual storytelling

  • Capture animation using a phone or tablet

  • Review and refine their work

The experience is intentionally low-pressure and exploratory — curiosity over correctness.

Schedule

Two-Day Workshop

  • Friday: 6:00–8:00 PM

  • Saturday: 5:00–7:00 PM

Both sessions take place at Loud Cloud Animation Studio. 11305 N Western Ave, OKC 73114

  • Stop-motion is a way of making movies one frame at a time.

You move an object slightly, take a photo, move it again, take another photo — and when all those images are played back in sequence, the object appears to move on its own. Think LEGO movies, clay animation, or characters that feel handmade and tactile.

It’s one of the most accessible ways for kids to understand how animation really works — because they can see the motion being built, piece by piece.

  • This class is a great fit for kids who:

    • Love storytelling, drawing, LEGO, crafts, or filmmaking

    • Are curious about how movies are made

    • Enjoy hands-on, creative problem-solving

    • Want to make things — not just consume content

No prior animation experience is required.

  • If your student has access to an iPhone or iPad, it’s helpful for them to bring it. Learning on a personal device makes it much easier for kids to continue animating after the class.

We’ll be using the free app Stop Motion Studio, so please download it ahead of time if bringing a device.

If your child doesn’t have a device, no problem at all — we have devices available in the studio, and no one will be left out.

Please note during registration whether your student will bring a device.

  • Yes — everything needed for the workshop is provided in the studio.

For families interested in continuing animation at home, we also share a recommended starter list. These are simple, optional tools that make it easier for kids to keep animating on their own:

    • A small iPhone or iPad tripod / stabilizer

    • A basic LED light

    • Sticky tack for holding objects in place

All items can be easily found online for under $50 total.

They’re completely optional — think of them as a helpful starting point, not homework.

  • We believe animation teaches patience, observation, problem-solving, and creative confidence.

This isn’t about screens for screen’s sake — it’s about using simple tools intentionally to tell stories, and helping kids feel empowered to keep making things on their own.

  • $235 per student

    This includes:

    • Both class sessions

    • All in-studio materials and tools

    • Instruction inside a working animation studio

    • A finished animation exercise

    • Skills and confidence to keep creating at home
